15 PHOTOS TO INSPIRE YOUR 2022 TRAVELS!

Have you heard the news? 2022 is the year that travel makes its well-awaited return! Whilst there are still patches of the world has not fully reopened to tourism just yet and some countries are still completely closed to foreign visitors, the vast majority of countries have reopened their doors (many without even having to be vaccinated to come in!) and these destinations are waiting for you to come and visit!

Having been on a few trips already this year, I can firmly say that I am ‘back out on the road’ and excited for what else I have got to come. In this first post on my blog, I wanted to share 15 photos of mine from places that I have visited around the world to help give you some inspiration for your next trip!

#1 – ANGKOR WAT TEMPLES - SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA

The Angkor Wat UNESCO site is home to some of Cambodia's richest and most sacred history, it is also home to monkeys that wander around seemingly unfazed by the masses of daily tourists to the temples (Photo taken February 2020 - © whereslewisat.com)

#2 – TORONTO SKYLINE – TORONTO, CANADA

Despite being Canada's largest city by population, Toronto is in my opinion, a very comfortable city to wander around doesn’t really feel too big to explore. The CBD skyline is pretty impressive both during the day and at night! (Photo taken July 2019 - © whereslewisat.com) 

#3 – NYHAVN DISTRICT - COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

The Nyhavn district in Copenhagen is known for its bar and restaurant-lined canals with iconic brightly coloured buildings and (much like everywhere in Copenhagen) masses of parked bicycles. Nyhavn really is a great place in the city to go and grab a beer, sit outside and people watch! (Photo taken June 2018 - © whereslewisat.com)

#4 – HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN - HOI AN, VIETNAM

The Hoi An Ancient Town UNESCO site is an ancient preserved town, which still features many small independent shops selling everything from authentically crafted items to specialised suit and dress tailors. The buildings in the town also feature bright multi-coloured lanterns and decorations, which at night light up the streets. (Photo taken October 2018 - © whereslewisat.com)

#5 – STREETS OF LISBON - LISBON, PORTUGAL

Lisbon is very much the San Francisco of Europe! The city features these impressive trams that go up and down its steep streets, and it even features its very own Golden Gate bridge that crosses the Tagus River to Almada. (Photo taken January 2019 - © whereslewisat.com)

 #6 – RED SQUARE - MOSCOW, RUSSIA

Having been closed off to the Western world for such a long time, since the fall of the Soviet Union, travel to this part of the world has become increasingly easier year after year! I strongly recommend you come to Russia at least once so you can see the stunning sites, including the Red Square, The Kremlin and Hermitage Museum (which is in St. Petersburg) Photos can truly do these places no justice. #7 – KANZILE VIEWPOINT - VADUZ, LIECHTENSTEIN

For most people, not a lot is known about this tiny doubly-landlocked Principality in the Alps. Liechtenstein however is a stunning, micro-nation that is tucked away deep into the mountain range and is pretty happy keeping itself to itself. Känzile Viewpoint, very close to the Prince of Liechtenstein's castle, can give you great views of the Principalities capital Vaduz and the surrounding areas. #8 – OLD DUBAI - DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Most visitors to Dubai only see the luxury and bright lights of the new part of the city, however, Old Dubai and its creek still retains much of its heritage and original roots. Dubai was originally known for being a fishing and port town until the discovery of oil in the region which brought with it exponential financial growth and prosperity.  #9 – TALLINN MAIN SQUARE - TALLINN, ESTONIA

Every year at Christmas time, the Main Square in Tallinn features a great Christmas market with a huge Christmas tree placed in the middle. The centre of Tallinn is very medieval looking and a great place to wander around! (Photo taken December 2018 - © whereslewisat.com)

#10 –  GEYSER ERUPTION – GEYSER, ICELAND

Iceland is known for its underground seismic and volcanic activity, this is in part thanks to its position on two major tectonic plates. One place you can see this volcanic activity particularly well is in the town of Geyser, where boiling water shoots from under the ground and into the air! The name for this geological feature comes from the town of Geyser itself. (Photo taken December 2017 - © whereslewisat.com)

#11 – SINGAPORE SKYLINE – SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE

At the top of the luxurious Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore is an observation platform, at night you can get some really impressive views of the Marina Bay skyline as well as views of the Singapore Strait with dozens of ships passing through it and also neighbouring Indonesia! #12 – PRIPYAT FERRIS WHEEL – PRIPYAT, UKRAINE

Safe enough now for short term visits to the area, you can visit the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant and abandoned neighbouring city of Pripyat on a day trip from Kyiv! Due to its feature in many photos and films, the Pripyat Ferris wheel has become an icon of this desolate area of Ukraine, that nature has now taken back. #13 –  KOTOR FORT – KOTOR, MONTENEGRO

Kotor Fort sits above the city of Kotor and can be reached by taking the very steep path up to the top, you are rewarded with some incredible views of the city as well as the stunning Bay of Kotor at the summit. (Photo taken August 2021 - © whereslewisat.com)

#14 – ROYAL PALACE – LUANG PRABANG, LAOS

Laos has not had a monarchy since 1975, when the last King of Laos abdicated the throne, allowing Pathet Lao (Laos People's Liberation Army) to adopt a communist state, which has been in place ever since. Despite this, the formal royal residence still remains in Luang Prabang, preserved to showcase Laos' former past under the rule of the Monarch. Visitors to Luang Prabang can visit the grounds and some of the buildings, where the Crown Jewels of Laos still remain on display. (Photo taken February 2020 - © whereslewisat.com)

#15 – HOOVER DAM – HOOVER DAM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

If you are visiting Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon is only a stone's throw away from the city! If you are considering visiting the Canyon by helicopter then you must stop by the Hoover Dam en route and see this impressive structure from above! (Photo taken September 2019 - © whereslewisat.com)
